Was humankind destined to evolve, or are we here by the sheer accident of a random series of genetic mutations?

Is our species purely the result of unplanned natural selection, or was some form of intelligent design involved?

There is evidence both ways, according to various members of the scientific community.

When we examine the concept of “intelligent” design, is it restricted only to the existence of a supernatural creator? Some geneticists and evolutionary theorists have suggested other definitions. Some have postulated that nature itself is “intelligent.” A seed “knows” when to sprout roots. Birds know when to migrate. Bears know when to hibernate.

Many of these activities in nature are described as instinctive. But where does “instinct” come from? Does DNA contain knowledge in addition to physical characteristics? Geneticists often use the word “instructions” when describing the genetic code. But are these instructions only for how to build a lifeform, or are they also capable of informing an animal or plant how to “behave?”

To date there is no consensus in the scientific community or definitive answers to these questions. Research is ongoing, and the more we learn, the more questions we uncover. That is the way of science.

For example, only twenty years ago we were sure dinosaurs had scales, like modern reptiles. Now we know that nearly all of them had feathers. And we also now know that birds are not descended from dinosaurs. They are dinosaurs who survived the mass extinction 63 million years ago and continue to evolve..

If we have just now realized something this basic, what other surprises might be in store?

Does destiny exist? However we came into existence, what is our purpose? And should our perceived purpose change based on how we got here?

My latest novel “Revision: The Dawn Awareness,” explores these questions and provides some possible answers. It is due for release in early summer and is now available for pre-order on Amazon.

If these questions tickle your imagination and cause your mind to wander beyond generally accepted conclusions, this book needs to be on your reading list for 2025.
